Tayo Oyedeji Bids Farewell to Insight Publicis Nigeria

Tayo Oyedeji has announced that he is stepping down as Group Chief Executive Officer of Insight Publicis Groupe Nigeria, closing a four-year chapter that many describe as the most transformative in the agency’s history.

In his announcement, Oyedeji reflected on his tenure as a defining period in his professional life, expressing deep gratitude to Biodun Shobanjo and Feyijimi Awosika for placing their trust in him. Under his leadership, the agency experienced a remarkable turnaround, achieving a sevenfold increase in profitability, a surge of more than 650 percent in shareholder value, and the acquisition of over 20 new clients while maintaining full retention of major accounts.

Oyedeji credited these achievements not only to strategic initiatives but also to the commitment and resilience of the agency’s employees. He highlighted the collective effort of team members who joined during uncertain times and those who remained through lean periods, noting that their dedication was central to rebuilding confidence both internally and externally.

The turnaround, according to Oyedeji, was anchored on three pillars: a cultural reset that placed people at the center and emphasised respect, accountability, and support; a disciplined commercial focus on winning new business and deepening client relationships; and the revitalisation of the agency’s creative energy. This renewed creative spirit was recognised when Insight Publicis Groupe Nigeria won the Grand Prix at the 2023 LAIF Awards and was named Agency of the Year in 2024, milestones that signalled the agency’s return to industry prominence.

Oyedeji’s career spans over two decades across Africa, Europe, and North America, with extensive experience in media, finance, marketing, and management consulting. He previously served as Regional Managing Director at Starcom, overseeing operations across 34 countries, and as Head of Publicis Media Africa

His leadership roles also include General Manager and COO at Credit Direct Limited, Managing Director of Media Perspectives, and Director of Business Development at MediaReach OMD, managing high-profile client accounts including MTN, Intel, HP, Visa, Guinness, and GlaxoSmithKline.

In addition to his corporate achievements, Oyedeji has an accomplished academic background. He holds a doctorate in business administration from the University of Missouri-Columbia and an MBA from University of Oxford. He also served as Assistant Professor at the University of Georgia, where his research on branding and media management was published in leading journals.

Looking ahead, Oyedeji said he will focus on non-profit initiatives and the development of his startup, Overwood, which champions financial literacy and independence in Nigeria and beyond. Reflecting on his time at Insight Publicis Groupe Nigeria, he said he leaves “with deep gratitude for the experience, respect for the institution, and immense pride in what we built together,” expressing confidence in the agency’s continued growth and creative leadership.
