PZ Cussons Nigeria Names Oghale Elueni CEO as Company Builds on Profit Recovery

PZ Cussons Nigeria Plc has appointed Oghale Joseph Elueni as its new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, placing a seasoned consumer goods executive at the helm of the company as it looks to consolidate its recent return to profitability and drive its next phase of growth.

The appointment, which takes effect from June 1, 2026, was announced in a notice to shareholders, the investing public, and the Nigerian Exchange Limited, signed by the Company's Secretary, ALSEC Nominees Limited.

Elueni succeeds Dimitrios Kostianis, who is stepping down after three years as Managing Director and CEO to assume a new role within the wider PZ Cussons Group.

In announcing the appointment, the Board expressed confidence in Elueni's ability to lead the business through its next chapter.

“The Board has approved the appointment of Mr. Oghale Joseph Elueni to the Board of Directors as Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Company with effect from 1st June 2026,” the company said.

“The Board is confident that his leadership capabilities, commercial experience, and deep understanding of the business will support the continued growth and strategic direction of the Company.”

The appointment comes at a significant time for PZ Cussons Nigeria, which recently posted a strong financial turnaround after navigating one of the most challenging operating environments in its history.

For the half-year ended November 30, 2025, the company reported a pre-tax profit of ₦37.9 billion, compared with a pre-tax loss of ₦5.5 billion in the corresponding period of 2024. The recovery was supported by stronger revenue performance, foreign exchange gains, higher other income, and reduced finance costs, with second-quarter earnings of ₦16.3 billion contributing significantly to the improved result.

Against this backdrop, Elueni now assumes responsibility for steering one of Nigeria's most recognisable consumer goods companies through an increasingly competitive market environment.

A Career Built Across Global Consumer Goods Giants

Elueni brings more than two decades of experience in the consumer goods industry, having built a career that spans Africa, North America, and several emerging markets.

He joined PZ Cussons Nigeria in 2021 and most recently served as Managing Director of the company's Consumer Business. Beyond his local responsibilities, he is also a member of the company's Global Executive Committee, contributing to strategic decisions across the broader PZ Cussons Group.

Before joining PZ Cussons, Elueni held senior leadership roles at SC Johnson and Procter & Gamble, where he gained extensive experience in sales leadership, market expansion, business development, and commercial strategy.

At SC Johnson, he served as General Manager for Sub-Saharan Africa, overseeing end-to-end profit and loss responsibility across the continent. In that role, he drove sustainable growth and market share expansion across key markets including South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana, Côte d'Ivoire, and Ethiopia.

Prior to that, as Managing Director for West Africa, he led business operations across Nigeria, Ghana, Côte d'Ivoire, and Senegal, helping to align regional strategies with commercial objectives while strengthening stakeholder relationships and delivering financial targets.

His experience at Procter & Gamble spanned more than 13 years and included several strategic and commercial leadership positions.

As Country Sales Manager for Sub-Saharan African Expansion Markets, based in Nairobi, he managed sales performance, market share growth, trade spending effectiveness, and distributor partnerships across countries including Ghana, Cameroon, Senegal, Côte d'Ivoire, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, and Gabon.

He also played a key role in strengthening go-to-market capabilities and managing distributor transitions across several African markets.

One of his most notable international assignments came in the United States, where he served as Global Business Development Manager on Procter & Gamble's Walmart International Team.

In that position, Elueni managed one of the company's largest global customer relationships, led innovation launches across 27 countries, coordinated category expansion programmes, delivered multimillion-dollar sales growth initiatives, and supported commercial and social-impact projects across Africa, Asia, and Latin America.

From University of Ibadan to the CEO's Office

Elueni's journey to the top of one of Nigeria's leading consumer goods companies began at the University of Ibadan, where he studied Microbiology and graduated in 2001.

He later attended Cornell University, completing the Retail Executive Program in 2012, further strengthening his expertise in retail and business leadership.

His educational background, combined with extensive experience across sales, distribution, market development, and consumer goods strategy, has shaped a leadership profile that blends commercial execution with international business exposure.

    Leading the Next Chapter

As Elueni takes over the leadership of PZ Cussons Nigeria, expectations will be high.

The company, whose portfolio includes some of Nigeria's best-known household and personal care brands, has recently demonstrated resilience amid economic volatility and foreign exchange pressures.

His appointment signals continuity in leadership while positioning the company to leverage his deep understanding of African consumer markets, multinational business operations, and growth strategy.

For PZ Cussons Nigeria, the transition marks more than a change in leadership. It represents a strategic bet on an executive whose career has been defined by building brands, expanding markets, and delivering growth across some of the world's most competitive consumer goods environments.
