NIPR Inducts 448 New Members, Neliaku Charges Them on Responsible Communication for Nation Building
The Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) has inducted 448 new members into the profession, with its President, Dr. Ike Neliaku, charging them to embrace responsible communication as a critical tool for nation-building and social cohesion.
Dr. Neliaku delivered the charge at the Institute’s fourth-quarter induction ceremony held over the weekend in Abuja, an event that brought the total number of professionals inducted by the Institute in 2025 to 1,516.
Addressing the newly inducted members, the NIPR President emphasized that public relations practitioners must transcend routine messaging and adopt communication practices that actively support national development. He described the inductees as “national stewards of trust,” entrusted with shaping narratives that build confidence, manage expectations, and foster unity among citizens.
According to Dr. Neliaku, effective communication plays a central role in national progress, noting that the rise and fall of nations depend not only on economic strength or military power, but also on the credibility of their stories and the confidence those stories inspire locally and internationally. He stressed that beyond leadership, purposeful and ethical communication remains a decisive factor in sustaining public trust and national stability.
In a solemn appeal, he told the inductees that their professional responsibilities now extend beyond organizational interests to the broader duty of safeguarding public trust and contributing meaningfully to Nigeria’s development agenda.
Also speaking at the ceremony, the Managing Director of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Mr. Ali M., underscored the importance of public relations in the success of governments and organisations. He noted that effective public relations is essential for building bridges of trust, transparency, and mutual understanding between institutions and the public.
Mr. Ali urged the new members to see themselves as builders of reputation and ethical shapers of narratives, while consistently upholding the highest professional standards anchored on integrity, truth, and creativity.
The NIPR conducts induction ceremonies quarterly as part of its statutory mandate to regulate the practice of public relations in Nigeria, licensing qualified professionals as chartered practitioners and reinforcing ethical standards within the industry.
